The Nest SEC (second series) #1

The second series of The Nest begins on Saturday July 24th with a range of local Sydney indie-rock bands.
This series will have a greater emphasis on audio and video production and will be sure to make The Nest one of the greatest sounding and visually appealing live music haunts in Sydney. As per last series, all gigs will be filmed and recorded, providing awesome high-quality video clips to the performing bands.
The first gig of the series is kicking off with an interesting blend of rock through to country through to psychedelic sounds. All bands hail from the local Sydney area and are seasoned live performers.

This event will be hosted by CJ Shaw, a self-confessed ping pong champion/ aspiring auctioneer.

The Foreign Electric

The Foreign Electric’s soundscape is fronted by a unique complimentary contrast of the two lead vocalists; backed by intensely tight beats and funky bass; and filled in the middle with a psychedelic clash of vintage guitars.
Since forming in 2007, The Foreign Electric have completed a self produced EP, played shows at such notable Sydney venues as the Annandale, the Hopetoun and the Gaelic Club, and had a little airplay.

The MoMos

If you had a time machine, you’d be able to go back to 2002 and hear the early sounds of The MoMos emanating from the upstairs window of an apartment block-cum-rehearsal room somewhere in Sydney’s inner west. They have brought their own special brand of toe-tapping pop-rock into venues, entrancing audiences with their lyrical tales of everything from the knee grazing fun of floor sex to pool parties, The MoMos subtle combination of back-country twang with inner city sensibilities ensure their sound is one in a mo-million!

Indigo Rising

Indigo Rising has been described as one of the biggest sounds to grace any stage in Sydney. Having only been together a year, the band have developed a devoted following by making every live show a night to remember.
With a flavour derived mainly from 80’s and 90’s alternative rock, these four talented boys have created a fresh, blues based rock sound influenced by the likes of Pearl Jam, Stone Temple Pilots, Chilli Peppers and Alice in Chains

Saturday May 8th – Line up

Daily Meds

The Daily Meds vocal trio strike hard with a special blend of tongue-trickery and not-so-savoury sooth sayery. Saucy stories of dance floor disarray and nonsensical party escapades rouse the crowd into a sweaty frenzy. Manic hype is then juxtaposed with fresh social commentary, metaphysical and moral philosophy and talk of global ascendancy. One man on guitar spinning dirty, dirty beats, two smart lads and one bent soulful diva = your recommended Daily dose of Meds!

Str8 Ballaz

Str8 Ballaz are the real deal. Three talented young people, straight from the streets of Glebe, pursuing their dream and bringing their music and vibe to you. Str8 Ballaz all come from the inner-city suburb of Glebe known for it’s troubled streets and tough culture. These kids are the real deal, from tough neighbourhoods and with all the hustle and bravado of true inner city street kids. This is a Hip Hop Crew with a future. The thing that sets them apart: raw talent.

Sceptic & Dseeva w/ DJ Skae

Self confessed addicts of rap Sceptic & Dseeva are the frontmen of Sydney’s KWITS CREW and founders of Sub Conscious Records. Their debut album HIP HOP PSYKOSIS is out now on Sub Conscious/Hoodlum Status Records. Sceptic & Dseeva are currently indulging in their own sound; Psykotik Realm Rap, manically constructing a delusional double disc sophomore release. Look out for the Sceptic & Dseeva – Sub C Baby Mixtape in the lead up to… SCEPTIC & DSEEVA – GHOSTWRITERS LP 2010.

Electric Elements Crew

Sydney’s Electric Elements Crew is a vibrant, new, funky, Aussie Hip Hop trio bringing together all the essential elements of hip hop music. So Sydney Stand Up, Australia represent and planet Earth get ready… here come the Electric Elements Crew. Peace! ..

the daily meds join the nest #6

The Daily Meds vocal trio strike hard with a special blend of tongue-trickery and not-so-savoury sooth sayery. Three poets who recently took a break from Reverse Polarities, have teamed up with the ultra fresh producer/guitarist extraordinaire Roleo, to mould a pungent and addictive vibe for present and future heads to boogy to.

Since the bands formation in 2009 they have supported The Thundamentals for 3 consecutive single launches. They also helped to launch the popular Sketch the Rhyme show which is now a national touring success featuring their very own P-Smurf. Independently they have rocked venues such as The Gaelic Club, The Basement, The Abercrombie, The Factory, Oxford Arts Factory, Newtown Fest, Surry Hills Fest, High and Dry, Peats Ridge and many more. No doubt their mutual drive to fuel the party will set them soaring higher than ever in 2010.

You Can’t Get More Real than this – str8 Ballaz to play at the Nest #6

Str8 Ballaz

are the real deal. Three talented young people, straight from the streets of Glebe, pursuing their dream and bringing their music and vibe to you. Str8 Ballaz are rappers Kash and Wayne and producer and DJ Lil ‘Cube. All come from the inner-city suburb of Glebe known for it’s troubled streets and tough culture. These kids are the real deal, from tough neighbourhoods and with all the hustle and bravado of true inner city street kids. And they’ve been tearing up a storm – DJ-ing and performing at countless house parties in the Glebe Area, and now getting recognition across Sydney with airplay of their latest tracks – this is a Hip Hop Crew with a future. The thing that sets them apart: raw talent.

Kash
– is 19 years old, and already a veteran of the Glebe streets. He has been
writing lyrics for years, and now, teamed up with Lil Cube’s production, has found his
smooth style and raw ‘pull-no-punches’ rhymes to be his key to success. His rhymes
are laid back, sincere, heartfelt missives from what it’s like to grow up on the ‘wrong
side of the tracks’ and making his way in a troubled world. Kash is some-one to watch
in Australian Hip Hop.

Lil’ Cube – As smart as he is talented, Cube is the powerful and enigmatic
driving force behind the Str8 Ballaz. A life-long Glebe resident, Lil’ Cube produces
the beats, DJ’s the house parties, and hustles, always hustling. Lil’ Cube may not say
much – his voice is his production – the smooth ‘West-Coast’ inspired beats he hones
every day in his studio.

Blizz – Blizz, at the young age of 18 is already a veteran of troubles with the law
and the mean side of the Glebe streets. Smart, articulate, good-looking and funny, he
is a talent just waiting to explode onto the world stage. Always smiling, Blizz steps up
to the mic with a confidence that belies his young age, and can rip up Freestyle with
flow that puts other rappers to shame.

Str8 Ballaz have recently produced a video and a 3 track ep – only available from Glebe Youth Services every afternoon.

Check out the Str8 Ballaz on Saturday 8th May @ The Nest w/ Daily Meds, Electric Elements Crew and more to be announced soon.

An introduction from our MC

Welcome to the Nest
By CJ Shaw

For those who leave their homes to follow the poets
with prose in their bones

For those who peak on beats n seek treacle sweet melodies
getting kicks from sonic tricks
ears pricked and singing

For those with winged shoes choosing to shoo away the blues
bouncing, swaying, swinging,
flinging up dust from the floor boards
and grinning

For those whose heart chooses art as departure from the blasting farcical
The neon nothingness
The empty vessel
(thats now become the modern model)

For those who seek company with like minded, small time messiahs
heart warming, informal,
all big ideas and small talk

and for all the rest
Welcome to the Nest
